How the Event on 9/11/01 Impacted my Life

On Wednesday, I shared my experience on September 11, 2001. Today, I would like to share how this event had a long lasting impact on my personal life. I do not want to in any way diminish the horrible experience and effects that those that have lost a loved one have faced. I am praying for all of them. I just want to share my story.

Relocation

m

y school suffered some damage caused by debri and it was also used as a morgue in the days following the attacks. We had to relocate to a school on the West side somewhere in the 20’s. We had to share the school so we started later and ended later, and let me just say that we were not welcome there with open arms by the students. It was not a fun transition at the start of freshman year.

The Para Professional

The Para Professional

I had

always been able to get around school well without any assistance.I used my remaining vision well and was fine for the most part. This event changed everything for me. The principal and stafff decided that i would be better off with a student aid or para professional. This is basically someone to go with me from class to class and help me throughout the day. I resisted this so much at first and i felt I had lost all of the independence. It took me a while to adjust. I did form some great relationships over the years and I am thankful for that.

Community

One good thing that came out of this event is that our school formed a tight community as a result and we all really became close. A few students chose to leave the school after the event but those who stayed really became like a family. It was truly an experience of a lifetime.
