Reflections: Goals to Improve My Walk with God During this Year

Image shows a silhouette of a woman looking out at the sunset. The text on the image reads 1 Timothy 6:6 KJV — But godliness with contentment is great gain.

The Christian journey can be hard at times and it is a bad idea to go at it alone. Community is very important. I speak from experience when i say this. I believe that having accountability is important. I have failed many times when i try to do something alone. At this time I do not have close friends that share my faith so I am using this space to help me stay accountable in this season. I want to share my goals to improve my walk with God during this year.

Prayer

Prayer is the most important part of the Christian life. I have always had trouble focussing when I am in prayer. My goal this year is to really make it a point to pray with purpose and not just pray out of a routine. I tend to pray the same words in the same order each time and I do not want to be a robot anymore. I really want to talk to God.

Worship Music

This year my goal is to get away from worldly music and focus on listening to music that truly worships God. I admit that I still struggle in this area. I still find myself listening to Taylor Swift from time to time. I hope to fill my music time with hymns and truly spiritual songs.

Bible Reading

I have made it a point to read the Bible cover to cover each year for the past few years and I have learned a lot from this. I hope to continue this during this year. I am reading through the Old and New Testament at the same time. I also want to read more Bible plans. I have found great devotionals on the YouVersion app.

Some Extra Thoughts

This video by Kian Tilton was very helpful and has fun suggestions on how you can grow closer to God. How will you be growing closer to God this year?
