#AToZChallenge Day 3: Contentment

The word contentment appears in black on a white background. There is a dark green border on the image

My theme for this year’s A to Z Challenge is faith and encouragement from a Christian perspective. I hope that these posts will be encouraging to you in all aspects of life.I am not just writing to you. These posts are also encouraging me as well.

Contentment

Here is some good advice, the grass is not always greener on the other side. It is very easy to look at someone else’s life and wish you had their life. This has become even easier with the rise in popularity of social media. It is very easy to compare your life to someone else. I am guilty of doing this myself at times.

You may see someone with a fun and high paying job and wish you had that job.

You may see someone in a relationship or married and wish you had that for yourself.

You may see someone with children and wish to be a mother.

You may see someone with a new car or house and wish you had those things.

Like I said before, the grass is not always greener on the other side. What you see on social media is not always what it looks like. Most people will only post the good and shiny photos but will leave out the mess.

It is not wrong to want these things in life, but it is wrong to be unhappy when we don’t have these things.

I have learned from the Bible that I must be content with food and clothing (read 1 Timothy 6:6-8 KJV).

I am also learning that material things will not make you happy and that true joy and contentment can only come from God. I think it is important to learn to be content wherever you are in life. It is important to be thankful for having a place to sleep, food to eat and clothes.

I think that  we should learn to be content having very little in life. This will spare us the pain that comes when we compare ourselves to others.

True contentment can only come from God.
