My theme for this year’s A to Z Challenge is faith and encouragement from a Christian point of view. I hope that you can look back on these posts when you are in need of some encouragement and that these posts will be helpful for you. I address these posts to myself as well.
Hymns
These days contemporary Christian music has taken the place of hymns for most Christians in their personal life and the same is true in churches. The church I attended while I was growing up mostly sang hymns but as time went on they started including more contemporary Christian music to include the youth.
I personally love the older hymns even more than the contemporary songs. I think that hymns focus a lot more on the word of God and focus on worshiping God more than the new worship songs we have today. I do listen to some contemporary worship songs but I am very selective in what I listen to. In this post I want to share some of my favorite hymns and I hope you will enjoy listening to them as well.
The familiar melodies are a comfort to me.
“Redeemed – how I love to proclaim it”
I love this hymn because it reminds me of the security I have in Jesus. This hymn reminds me that he is by my side and will help me get through the hard times. I am thankful to be redeemed. You can read the lyrics and listen to the music for this hymn here.
“Sweet Hour of Prayer”
I really love this hymn because it reminds me of how important prayer is. Prayer is a wonderful privilege that we have when we become a child of God. I am learning more and more each day that prayer is truly a lifeline while I am still on this earth. You can learn more about this hymn here.
Listen to one of my favorite versions below.
“HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
I love this hymn because it clearly speaks of the trinity, that is that God is 3 persons but there is one God. I won’t go into this any further here but there are many Bible verses on this (God the father, Jesus Christ the son and the Holy Spirit).

Some extra thoughts
I decided to share only 3 of my favorite hymns to keep this short but I have a lot more. I hope that these songs will encourage you today. Share some of your hymns in the comments below.
