#AToZChallenge Day 13: Modesty

The word modesty appears in black on a white page that is on a black background.

My theme for this year’s A to Z Challenge is faith and encouragement from a Christian point of view. I hope these posts are an encouragement to you. I am addressing these posts to myself as well.

Modesty

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary this is the definition of modesty.

  • : the quality of not being too proud or confident about yourself or your abilities//She accepted the award with modesty.
  • 2: propriety in dress, speech, or conduct//The young man was known for his modesty.

Modesty in personality

As a Christian I have learned that I must be humble. First off I must recognize that I am only alive each day because of God.

I must recognize that all I have comes from God (read James 1:17 KJV here).

I must also recognize that I can not earn my way into heaven. I can only go through Jesus Christ.

Modesty in lifestyle

I have learned that I also have to be modest in what I wear and with the material things I have.

When it comes to fashion I should not be buying the most expensive outfits. The second aspect of modesty in regards to fashion is being proper. This means that I should cover my body and dress in a respectable way. It is possible to dress modestly and still look nice. I personally choose to wear long skirts and dresses and no longer wear pants. I believe it is important for me to dress in a way that honors God.

I have learned that material things are not really that important. Everything will fade in the end.

Some extra thoughts

I want to add that I made this post more personal because I am not here to judge anyone. I am sharing this for myself as well. Modesty extends to all aspects of life. I hope what I have shared will be helpful for you.
